Isles of Scilly Farm Initiative (IOS FI)
In partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall and the IOS LAG Programme Manager a small working group of Scillonian farmers have developed a draft proposal for the establishment of a project to improve the capacity and resilience of the Scillonian Agricultural Industry. It is the intention that this proposal will form the basis of a bid to Defra under the RDPE programme.
In essence, the initiative aims to ‘work in partnership to drive the capacity and resilience of the Scillonian Agricultural Industry in order to meet new economic opportunities and in some sectors, reverse a significant decline in productivity’. This aim will be achieved through the implementation of a range of measures that offer knowledge transfer, vocational training, collaborative working, access to integrated specialist advice and entry to the wider RDPE programme. In order to realise these initiatives the IOS FI will put in place a dedicated and suitably qualified individual whose sole purpose will be to work with farmers to deliver against specific objectives.
The working group intend to lodge the application with Defra in the next few weeks and would like to invite any comments on the proposal by the 18th November. It would also be very helpful to our application if you felt able to offer a letter of support for the aims and objectives of the initiative. Please address any correspondance/queries relating to this proposal to any member of the working group as detailed in the proposal below.
